My mac OS X 10.5.8 is old and I have been running it to the ground lately, but I would like to get a little more use out of it.

Recently it stopped being able to close garageband and I would have to force quit it. I was trying to fix a problem in relation to time machine(which doesn't work) and ran a disk repair.

Since I did that applications like flash freeze when I try to modify the document, garageband won't open and a couple of my apps now have question marks instead of icons.

I know there is a lot here, but any ideas of first aid type things I can do besides the obvious ones? Thank you.

Without any information about your Mac, I can only speculate that your hard drive is either dying or getting ready to die. I suggest making a backup of your data the best possible way that you can. I know you mentioned Time Machine isn't working but you risk losing all your data otherwise.

What were the results of the disk repair you ran? Any errors corrected? Any other errors noted?
