Hey guys, basically, i was clearing up my hdd and copied all my movies and music over to my external hardrive.
Since they were now on the external hardrive i deleted the files off my actual macbook and then emptied the trash (there was around 46,000 items in the trash to be deleted, around 150GB worth.

Anyway i emptied the trash and ejected my external hdd but when i clicked "about this mac" it still said i only have 84GB free when it should be MUCH more.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

It looks 100% empty.

one thing i noticed is that it was taking ages, it took like 10 mins to go from 46,000 items to 45,000 items and after another 20 mins i came back upstairs and it was all done (meaning the empty trash pop-up was gone)

Do you recommend i go back in time machine to before it happened and just delete the things one at a time? rather than all at once?

Make sure Secure Empty Trash is not selected. Also if no joy consider rebooting. An external drive must be mounted and trash emptied prior to ejecting the drive.

I tried doing the time machine thing but it didnt work. Now here is a screenshot of my internal hdd and my external hdd.

Why are there 114GB of backups on my local hardrive aswell as my external ? and is there anyway to find out what my "other" consists of?
