I am creating an app for the iPhone using xcode and was wondering how I would go about assigning a unique number to each individual who downloads my app. Kind of like someone signing up for a rewards card at a store. They have one number on the card that lets the store know who they are.

You will need a server for that
Since you can not access the UDID anymore, you can use the OpenID framework or you can create a Guid and save it in the keychain. When the application starts, you check if such a Guid exists, and if it does not you create one and register it to your server.
