Printer prints gibberish

Jut networked new i book to a NEW HP deskjet 5940. Networked via linksys router & Dell desktop & networked Toshiba laptop . I book connects to Internet. Dell & Toshiba print fine. apple sends directions to printer but nothing but pages and pages of junk print out .
