I am considering purchasing an iMac and would like to use my MacBook Pro as additional data storage. Does anyone know if I can use my MacBook Pro as a 'Time Capsule'? Thanks.

Thank you. I do not have a Time Capsule. I'm looking to use my MacBook Pro as a Time Capsule for an iMac. Do you know if this is possible? Thanks.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. The answer to your question is yes. I think you are confusing the terms 'Time Capsule' with 'Time Machine'.

Time Machine is the software that handles backup duties. Time Capsule is a hardware NAS solution meant to compliment the Time Machine software, which has been bundled with every mac since OS X 10.5 (Leopard). So, in essence, you're going to create a share on the MacBook Pro, then connect to it with the iMac using Time Machine.

The article I cited above explains how to do that.
