I have an I Mac I do not use the CD slot very often, but recently wishing to down load a lot of music CDs I found that it would not load and kept popping out.

I kept shoving it back in and eventually after many goes I would get one to play, sometimes after at least 10 goes.

Anybody any idea what it is and how I can fix it please

Thanks

Slot loading drives are notorious for breaking quite easily. They can also be quite picky when it comes to certain types of optical media. Does this happen with every disc?

Two other possibilities are dirty disks or a dirty CD drive.

It could very well be one of the following then: a broken optical drive or as pigoo3 mentioned, a dirty drive. When was the last time that you used it? Take a look at this document.

If it is a dirty drive is it possible that I might insert a cleaning CD if they make them and try that first. Not many repair shops here in Spain

A dirty CD drive usually refers to dust, dirt, fuzz buildup. A common method to "clean" a CD drive is to carefully blow some compressed air (canned air) into the CD slot.

Cheers guys, No chance of canned air in this country, and my compressor would be too strong, so I used a hairdryer on cool, it does appear to have done the trick, if not completely fixed I can now get my CDs in.

Thank you all again
