As my first post as new-ish MBP owner (late Nov 2012) and this being my first Mac, I am interested to know what measures I can take to optimise the continued performance of my MacBook in terms of battery and memory optimisation.

Whether this includes using minimal apps and other measures, this all being all relatively new to me, are there any other measures i can take?

Much appreciated!

I wouldn't worry too much

Shutdown and restart every now and again

Use Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) about once a month and do a permissions repair

Thank you!

I like to even take preventative measures with anything as I feel this is better than reactive measures. Maybe that's just me?

If it's your first mac then that should be enough

Onyx is also a good free maintenance app that can run a variety of tasks

But OSX does not suffer from the sort of Windows rot that can progressively slow down a Windows PC, its a good idea to do some periodic maintenance, but otherwise its a rock solid Unix based OS

And, of course, if you do ever encounter problems there are plenty of people here who will help, and they are very helpful to new Mac users

Regardless, i'm careful of what i put on it but it's reassuring that it is almost a 'cleaner' system as opposed to Windows.

Thanks again.
