I am a new Mac user. I have been use to using Open Office and tried to down load it to my new Mac Book Pro. However I get a message that said it is not supported when I tried to open the program. What did I do wrong, or what can I use instead?

It appears you downloaded a version of Open Office that is either for Windows or possibly for Linux or maybe an older version for PPC. Here is the correct link to download Open Office for the Mac: LINK

Thank you

Thanks for the Link, it was the one I had used.
I solved my problem with advise from my Mac using daughter. It was a security issue that I had to deal with.
