This is what I have been using on an older computer. But I have compatibility issues sometimes. Is there something that is better?

I use Apache Open Office but there are compatibility problems for MS Office users. If you convert an OO doc/spreadsheet to .doc/xls or vice versa formatting will be affected. For example numbering will not be recognised.

An IT wizard I know has told me that there's a Google 'driver'; that works in the 'Cloud'. He says that you never see the finished document except as a pdf.

I'm not sure that, for me, that would 'cut it'. I share the job of Treasurer with somebody else. He uses MS Office and I use Open Office and we do manage to exchange files subject to the above. If I want to distribute something for viewing or printing I attach it as a pdf. That way the original formatting is kept.
