i have been told that my macbook pro may have a virus. How can I check and remove it?

Said who and what proof is there? In other words, what makes you think you have a virus?

Who told you that? Since there are no viruses in the wild that can infect a Mac, you don't have a virus. Also, we need more info regarding your Mac and which version of OS X it's running.

I was trying to clean up a problem with an email account and they said I had a virus and needed to re-format my HD. Seemed extreme so I thought I would check. I'm certain now that it was just bad advice. Thanks for the help and reassurance

Our pleasure. Quite often when an ISP has something going on it does not understand, the old virus comes out from under the bed. Not getting any problems are you?

It wasn't a phone call from India claiming to be from 'Microsoft Support centre' was it?
