Bought my first iPod (off of eBay), a classic, 160 GB (no idea if it is the latest generation but it is running 2.0.4) and was wondering what is the most painless way of adding music?

I tried the drag-n-drop feature but with a 120 GB library that was taking forever and the spinning beach ball was there constantly.

I have used the sync with selected playlist feature and that was fine; still took a while but after selecting everything I wanted it worked well.

I was wondering though how it works if I choose the Entire Music Library. Does it actually sync every song? Or, does it only select those with the small check mark in the song list?

Only songs that are checked will be synced with your iPod (after all, this is partly what the checkmark is designed to signify).

120GB of content is going to take a long time, however you decide to do it. I think the key here is patience. To make it easier, do it when you're away from your computer (dinner perhaps?).

Is this when I select Sync Entire Music Library under the Music tab? Is Entire=all or Entire=only check marked?

It sure does take a while, but I managed to do it all in one go while I was away at work.

NEVER MIND...READ BEFORE YOU POST. THANKS FOR THE HELP.

Hmm...I think that depends where they are checked. If you uncheck a song in the main iTunes window, then, in my experience, that song won't play in iTunes. For example, I uncheck all my Christmas carols so that they don't play in the summer. However, I still think that they would get synced to my iPod.

If you don't want music synced to your iPod, then with the iPod connected, go to the iPod pane in iTunes, and choose the "Selected playlist, artists...." option. You then have to choose which songs that you WANT to be synced, rather than those that you DON'T want to be synced.
