Hi Guys,

I am currently editing some DV footage through iMovie (iLife 05) and am having problems with audio playback of the soundtrack of the film. Audio doesnlt play properly and am wondering if it is a questions of RAM or processor power. Below are the relevant specs:

CPU: Power PC G4 450MHz Processor
RAM: 640mb SD RAM
O/S: Tiger 10.4.4
Harddrive: drive apps run off is a third empty (7GB of 20GB)

The actual iMovie is on a second hard drive with plent of space available.

Thanks for your help.

Movies that are over 20 minutes have horrible audio problems in iMovie. If your movies is over 20 minutes, try separating the audio from the video and locking the audio and video together. This gets rid of the problem most of the time.

Do you know if you recorded in 12bit or 16bit audio? Seperating the tracks may fix the problem, but then again, it may not. I would reccommend exporting your footage back to your camera, making sure that your settings are set for 16bit audio, and then re-importing. This may fix the problem.

I would set the camera to 16bit like djlee12 suggested. All of my videos are more than an hour long, with that setting I have no problems.

Dear All,

It seems my initial problem was misdiagnosed. I cannot get real time playback both the picture and sounds are slowed right down, so for instance a 25 second clip on the timeline actually will take 37 seconds to play through. HELP PLEASE!!

that machine is kind of slow to run long imovie projects, i'm editing something about an hour long video on my ibook and it literally hurts to wait for it. Consider cutting it down and editing in smaller parts
