Contacts transfer

MacBook Pro 13"; Ipad 4
Hi folks, I'm new to the forum but not new to Macs. I'm trying to transfer my Address Book from my old MacBook to my new MacBook Pro. Nothing I've done so far works. Can anyone help?:Grimmace:

Have you tried going to File > Export > Contacts Archive... on the old Mac and then importing it on the new one by going to File > Import?
