Mail Trash Can icon missing

The trash can icon is suddenly missing from Mail. I am using OS X 10.8.2. How do I get it back?

UPDATE: I found "Customize Toolbar" in the VIEW menu and dragged the trash can icon onto the toolbar. Duh!!!
