Hi everyone. I'm in need of a new laptop and I 'm going through craigslist (unfortunately) to get a new one (used). Now :
I've always been with the old macbook 1.1 and than 4.1. Both served me well. With the second (2.4 ghz 667 and 4gb ram) I worked on video animation without too many problem. Now my choice is between 2 laptops

2008 non unibody 17" macbook pro at 2.5ghz and 800 Mhz front bus with 4gb ram and Nvidia GE FORCE 8000. New battery brand nu power and great condition. Price 699$. I'm not able to low down the price.

2010 unibody macbook white at 2.26 and 1066mhz rb. 4gb ram as well and nvidia ge force 9400. 530$ great condition.

The size of a 17" is a temptation for me since I draw and animate with my laptop, but it 's getting old. Any advise?

The 2008 machine is overpriced and may wind up costing you more. The 2008 MBPs had problems with their nVidia graphics. I would avoid that machine and go with the 2010 model MacBook if it's in good condition.

You might want to check with the Mac2Sell site to see what the average going prices are for used machines.

If it helps you determine your price any, tonight I sold a mid-2009 MBP 13" with 320GB HD, 80GB HD, no optical and 6GB of RAM for $600.

In my area these can be had for around $450 (maybe less if patient).

Thanks for getting back. Just to know,
a machine with 2.26ghz processor and 1066mhz is faster than a 2.4ghz at 667 mhz? Sorry about the stupid question but I keep going misunderstanding that.

With the benchmarks I've seen for these two computers…they're actually almost the same in terms of speed regarding the cpu.

A couple things you should be aware of:

- The 2010 MacBook can be upgraded to 8gig of ram. The 2008 MBP can be upgraded to 6gig.
- The 2008 MBP has 512meg of discrete video memory/hardware…the 2010 MacBook uses integrated video hardware (shares logic board ram to process video tasks).

I should also mention that…the MacBook is actually a "Late 2009" model…not 2010.

Go with the 2009 MacBook for $530. That 2008 MBP for $700 is ridiculous!

Believe it or not…$700 for a 17" 2008 MBP, 4gig ram, 2.5ghz core 2 duo…really isn't all that bad. Mac2Sell says that it's worth $710…and I actually sold my 2008 17" MBP (exact same model)…about 2 months ago for $725.

I think that the OP needs to decide if they want/need a 13" or 17" display. Then the decision will be easier. $530 for the 13" MacBook is definitely on the high side. Mac2Sell.com says $380…I would have said more like $400-$425.

 Since I see the price for a 17" MBP, I really feel good now about my sweet deal on a cheaper MBP.
I bought my wife's 15" 2008 MBP (non uni-body) for $245 off of eBay. The only thing wrong with it was that both USB ports didn't work. I took it apart and resoldered the broken solder joints and which made good as new. O:)
