Hello, new here, thanks for having me!

Had a quick question, I wanted to connect a pretty old (little less than 10 years) apple flat screen monitor to my 2009 macbook pro (2009, 2.53ghz, intel core duo). My laptop has a mini DVI port, but I've had trouble locating an adapter that will make this work. My assumption is that it doesn't exist, but thought I'd ask in case I'm missing something.

The monitor came with a dual 1Ghz (mirror door) desktop from 2003, was hoping to use it as an extra screen. Here are images of the port from the monitor:

Many thanks for any advice you can provide!

Best,
Gabe

Texas, where else?
Your Mac's Specs
15" MBP '06 2.33 C2D 4GB 10.7; 13" MBA '14 1.8 i7 8GB 10.11; 21" iMac '13 2.9 i5 8GB 10.11; 6S
That is Apple's ADC plug - it was their proprietary version of a DVI plug that also carried USB and the power for the monitor in the same cable. You're going to need Apple's proprietary DVI to ADC adapter, which, if you can even find one, is probably going to run you $100-$150.

You can buy a new monitor for about the same price as that adapter.

Amazon

Have not tried the above and wouldn't recommend anyone spend $100+ on that cable for a screen that is now 10+ yrs old.

And your '09 2.53Ghz should have a mini displayport - not a mini-DVI.

You can verify checking my pics in post # 4 here.

You would also need a mini displayport to DVI adapter.
