Transfer music from PC to Mac

Very new to the whole Mac scene so possibly a very naive question: How do I transfer music from my PC laptop to Macbook laptop? I transferred all the music to a WD 750G USB drive and proceeded to connect is via USB to my MacBook Pro and the drive just sat there. It didn't even register under the devices connected.

Is this because the USB drive was originally PC formatted? All the songs from my iTunes PC are on the drive so I was trying to transfer them to my MacBook Pro with no success thus far. PLEASE HELP!!

Your Mac's Specs
Mac Mini i5 (2014 High Sierra), iPhone X, Apple Watch, iPad Pro 12.9, AppleTV (4)
OSX can read all the standard 'PC' formatting schemes.

If you can see the device in the left sidebar in Finder, open Disk Utility. Can you see the drive connected in there?
