A quick look at this picture and you would think you're looking at the Macbook Air..look closer and you see the Samsung logo and it's actually the Chromebook..

When will they learn?

And they would still claim that they aren't copying Apple..;)

Two companies with too much money to burn.

You would think some of that money would go into R&D and Design on coming up with new things..

I would be embarrassed to work for such a big name company, who so shamelessly copied their competitions product. Don't they have any originality?? Can we say…"Me too!!!"

I'm not one for giving Apple the easy way out of things like this but this is a flagrant copy of the MBA. It's not even close. Not only does it look like it but it's not as if the MBA design is brand new either.

Don't forget the smaller margins around the keyboard. ;)

I think that the different hinges & the smaller margin DEFINITELY qualify this computer as being different (not even close to an Apple product)!!!;);)

Terrible copy. The MBA is still very sexy, that thing's about as nice as a pair of dogs ...

Too many...
I think the $250.00 price tag also sets it apart.

I guess that would make all clones legit then.
Weird thing is that this could be taken as a joke, or a serious statement.

It's true that the Chromebook pictured is $250, but a few things to bear in mind:

1. That's not metal. It's plastic painted to look like metal. So you can just imagine how good those hinges are.

2. A Chromebook can really only be used for one purpose: surfing the web (and running web-based apps I suppose). I know we all spend too much time on the web, but ...

3. No internet connection? It also makes a fine paperweight.

That oversimplifies things. A lot of Google's services can work offline and sync the changes when a connection is re-established. And, truthfully, if you bought this, you'd likely only be using when you had internet access anyway. But, you are right that it is largely dependent on a connection for usefulness. At the same time though, those who buy this probably won't have this problem.

I'm afraid we are seeing the vanguard of things to come. Put your iPhone or iPad into Airplane Mode, and disable all connectivity. See how useful it is. Without our high bandwidth data streams, we are needle junkies without any horse. We are going back to a terminal servers and data/apps as services model. Your future laptops will be like this before too long, though Apple will probably use metal and create higher quality terminal clients with unique original designs and better hinges.

Is it my imagination or did the Google guy kinda tap dance around some of the questions about specs?

They're here if you're interested. Those are a little unclear though - they don't tell you how fast the processor is or how large the SSD is. According to this though, the processor is a dual core 1.7ghz ARM processor with a quad core GPU and 16GB SSD. It also has 2GB of RAM. For an OS that is, for all intents and purposes, X with a browser on top, that should be enough.

You know, for someone who really just lives on the web, this is a much better option than a tablet. It has a full keyboard, is considerably cheaper, has a larger screen and still gets decent battery life (not quite as good though). It's not something I'd ever want but for a fair number of people, web applications are powerful enough to meet their daily needs. If only it didn't essentially force you to use Google products...

I read last night that it can run Ubuntu without issue. Perfect. A cheap Ubuntu machine for the road.

Side note - this is another example of how the Brits get screwed with the pricing. How do you put up with this?

I don't think the Brits get screwed at all. Some of their consumer protection mechanisms, while well-intended, naturally result in increased liability on the part of the manufacturer, which in-turn leads to higher prices passed onto the consumer.

In other words, they're purchasing products that come bundled with an "extended warranty" that we would pay extra for... and that's before we even talk about VAT, which I believe is bundled into the price here.
