I have an IMac 8 months old. I bought, downloaded Mountain Lion and installed it without any problems and it seems to be running OK, but when I go into App store and bring up purchases page everything I have downloaded has a box on the righthand side stating "installed" except Mountain Lion which has "download" in the box. I have noticed this in other areas of the App store, Have I not installed M/L correctly? or is this normal.

Click on the Apple logo in the upper left of your screen and see what version OS X is installed.

That's normal. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that OS X is not an app in the traditional sense of the word.

I see the same thing for both Lion and Mountain Lion in the App Store, so it must be an odd thing since it's not an app.

That is very normal. The reason why Mountain Lion has "download" is the installer you just downloaded when you purchase it and run the installation will self delete automatically.

It is better to download it again and of course don't run the installation, this time it will remain in your application folder. By this time you will have a copy of the installer and keep it for future use.
