Trying to determine whether I upgrade. Here is what I'm currently running.

Hardware Overview:

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac8,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: IM81.00C1.B00
SMC Version (system): 1.30f1

I'm running OS X 10.5.8. Should I upgrade to 10.6? What's the upside or downside?

Upsides:

- Newer OS versions are compatible with newer hardware & software.
- Newer OS versions may have features you'll like.

Downsides:

- If you upgrade your OS…you may make older apps. you have installed incompatible with the new OS version.
- Newer OS versions have greater hardware requirements (which may not be a problem)
- The install disks for 10.6 are no longer sold (in the Apple Stores or online)…so a little extra work getting an install disk.

Some quick stuff off the top of my head.:)

I have yet to see a post from someone who called Apple directly to order a SL (10.6) disk and was told they had none left. Others have reported in the not to distant past that they ordered one on the phone for $29. It's worth a try. And if they tell you they are out, please post that information here.

Had one member about a week ago reported they got Snow Leopard for $20 by calling Apple.
So $20-$30 by calling Apple or $80-$100 from some 3rd party.

Another downside of not upgrading:
You'll not be able to view any flash content that requires the latest player as Adobe no longer supports Leopard with it's flash player.
