Easiest way.... Google pound sign or pound sterling, copy and paste it to wherever you need it.

Not the easiest way. The easiest way is to use the built-in Keyboard and Character Viewer (under system preferences, International) and discover what key combination produces that symbol (I'm unsure if by "pound" you mean # as the Americans would think or £ as most Europeans would think). On my US keyboard the former is shift-3 and the latter is option-3, but of course that may vary on your keyboard.

Anyway, once you know how the symbol you want is achieved, practice will allow you to remember that key combination so you won't have to go to google EVERY TIME you want it.
