I'm a noob at this. I have a cable modem connected up to my Airport Extreme, which provides our wireless network at home. We have an iMac in our bedroom and a Mac-mini in another room for the kids to use. We also have laptops (WIN and Mac) which sometimes we use at home as well.

Anyway, I want to setup a central storage drive to use for file storage and backup, no streaming or anything fancy. My kids have lots of pic files, etc.

Could I just hook up any HD to the USB port of the AE? Would that show up as a shared drive for all the wireless network users?

Is there a better way, without having to spend $$$?

Thx,
Fred

If you have the Apple Airport Extreme Base station, yes, you can connect a hard drive to it via USB. Then those Macs and PCs which are on your network at home will have access to the drive. Here is the LINK to the AE info from Apple. Read through all the options especially since you also have a PC.
