If a preorder is placed using the Apple website, will it show all applicable discounts available with the carrier (in my case, AT&T)? I have seen the posted costs for each phone with a 2 year contract, but I think AT&T offers an additional $100 discount once your previous contract expires, and I want to make sure I receive that if I go through the Apple Store.

I did try to pose this question to AT&T, and they could not tell me anything!

No, those discounts are given through AT&T, so if you want them, you would have to work with AT&T. Apple only provides the phone and the connection to the service provider. When a phone is just being released, it doesn't really matter where you get it from(AT&T store vz. Apple store)...unless you want specifically purchase if at Apple so you can wait in their lines.

I can almost 100% garauntee you that there will not be that type of offer for the new iphone 5. I cannot say that is true for any other phone but the iphone almost certainly not.

I ordered my wif'es last night at 320 am EST with the upgrade discount and it was the 32GB for 299+tax.

Sorry to break the bad news, but the cheapest from any retailer will be 200 for a 16gb for an iphone5.
