Do you have sound when you play a CD or DVD or from another program that produces sound? Also, when you post to a forum it helps if you give the specs on your Mac such as year and model and which version of OS X it's running.

Have you by chance used external speakers with the Mac Pro? if so maybe System Preferences are still set to external.

The Mac Pro has next to nothing by way of a speaker -- just a little basic one for system sounds. Plug in some external speakers.
