Would like to switch to Mac Book Pro --- does it support the Microsoft Works V8 software.
If not, what is a comparable program in the Mac world?

I have MS Office, but some of my prime daily use files are in Works.

2022 Mac Studio M1 Max, 2023 M2 MBA
MS Office, LibreOffice, NeoOffice, iLife suite (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) are all comparable programs for the Mac..

Thankfully, there is no direct equivalent for the awful MS Works on Mac. Even MS has recognized that it's junk and discontinued it.

Get ready for a WAY better class of software than you're used to. I'd suggest you look into Pages as a vastly superior alternative.

I Mac 27-inch 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5 24GB ram. MacBook Pro 13-inch 2.5GHz dual-core Intel i5 16GB ram
Also, think about Google docs. I switched to this cloud based alternative.
Its very convenient and has all the features I need
And it is free

If you have old Works documents you want to open in something else, save them as RTF files, then the RTF files can be opened by Word, Pages, LibreOffice, etc. You can also follow the advice given here.
