white screen

I have a MacBook Pro that is only showing a white background. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

We need more information: Year and model MacBook Pro? Which version of OS X is it running? And what have you done so far to resolve the problem?

It is a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009) and I do not know the os. I was thinking of replacing inverter. It does not have a dvi connector to connect to a monitor and see if I get a picture.

If the screen lights up it's not the inverter or the LCD so save your money. It's likely the graphics adapter which has failed but we won't know until you can attach an external monitor to test.

It did drop. do I need a fire wire connection to test with a monitor?

No, you need a Mini Display Port adapter to whatever input you use on the external monitor or TV. For example: MDP adapter to DVI or VGA.
