I have a macbook pro 2.33 ghz dual core w/ 3gig of ram.

Am adding a SSD to run faster and hopefully cooler.

Which OS would be better for school use / battery life, running parallels / Win 7: Snow Leopard, or Mountain Lion?

TIA

For battery life and compatibility with older software that requires Rosetta, stick with Snow Leopard. I'm running Mountain Lion but it's on an iMac and I have no PPC coded apps that need Rosetta. I'm personally not that impressed with Mountain Lion, however, that's just my opinion. Others seem to like it.

Thanks, those were my thoughts, but wanted to check rather than go backwards later.

I have new mac running Mountain Lion and share your opinion. A few changes seem to be for form rather than function.

Snow Leopard it is!
