• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi,
Can't seem to get my stone age video player to connect/work on my macbook pro.

I'm wanting to (usual stuff), get all my movies from a VHS, (get my mac to at least play the videos so I can see them on the computer, then pop them onto a DVD (and clean my cupboards of dust)...

Using a - red to red
yellow to yellow
white to white, from the back of the video player

and I've plugged in what looks like normal jack into my speaker bit.
Should I buy a USB (that goes at the end of the cable) instead.
That done... how do I get to 'see' my videos and burn them onto DVD.

And you are connecting it to your Mac how?

You are using what's known as a composite cable. The yellow is the video, the red and white are the right and left channels of the audio.

To capture video on your Mac, you will need a video capture card. The most often recommended is from El Gato - link (though there are others out there).
