undeleateable excel file on desktop

I seem to have an undeletable excel file on my desk top, I cant open it, get info, move it to trash or directly delete it...any advice?

other advice I have gotten requres me to be able to get info, move the icon open the file etc...all things I cant do.

Completely shut down MS Office, reboot, and then drag the file to the trash. Let's see if that works. If you're using Lion or Mountain Lion, make sure you remove the check from the box that says to restore windows when you reboot.
