Hi everyone, I have been a Windows user for quite some time and recently switch to a Mac. On my Windows machine, I have always used Disk Cleanup to remove temporary internet files, hibernation files etc... from the hard drive. I have done some search and there are many threads recommending different third party apps, but I would like to know if there is anything within the OSX that performs the same function

No, because generally it's not needed. OS X does not have a Registry nor does it create unnecessary *.ini or other files and scatter them about as Windows does.

However, most of us recommend the free OnyX maintenance and cleanup program which will safely keep things nice and neat for you. Do not use other programs especially one called "MacKeeper". It's pure snake oil and will do more harm than good.

Here is the LINK for the free download of OnyX. Please read the instructions and help file first before using it.

I have read some reviews on the macupdate website and also check out the developer's site, the app seems to have a lot of options, and I am not sure what each one does, and I am concern about deleting something that shouldn't be delete

That's why I stated in my reply to read the instructions and help files first before using. Everything is explained in help.
