I have been looking into getting a new macbook pro and the main thing I have questions about is the normal and solid state hard drive. I want to know if the solid state drive is worth the money. I do throw my computer around as I am still in school and dump my backpack places. Are there any other benefits to the solid state hard drive I should know about? Please help.

If you throw your computer around as you stated, a SSD won't make any difference. Computers are not throw around objects. The difference a SSD does make is in speed. However, the cost for a large enough SSD is much higher than a standard rotating drive. The cost difference is a decision that you will have to make.

I thought the solid state drive was better to have if your laptop gets knocked around occasionally. Since there are no moving parts in it it shouldn't be as affected as a standard hdd. Am I wrong?

An SSD has no moving parts per se. So yes, it will likely survive a drop better than a platter drive. However, what I was referring to was the remainder of the computer. Today's MacBook Pro machines are all aluminum and do not take a tossing about very well. Dents, dings, scratches, are all common things that can happen when they're treated will less than tender care. Make sure you buy a good protective case for your machine. That will help.
