I lost all my information after downloading an Office update- all contacts, inbox, sent box & everything in Outlook is gone. How can I fix this dilema I'm in?

Which update did you download? Do you have a backup?

Mac:Office 2011 14.2.3 update. I had to turn off Sync Services & Microsoft Database Daemon to make the update install. I turned them off in the Activity Monitor. I did not back up; not too smart!
Please let me know something. Thanks.

It looks like when you turned those off in Activity Monitor and installed the update, it reset everything back to day one. I'm not sure why it would not allow you to install the upgrade. I did not have that problem installing the same upgrade for Office 2011.

However, it may have saved your old data to a backup file before resetting.

Take a look here:

Macintosh HD/Users/your name/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/

In order to view your user library (it's hidden) select "Go" from the top of your Finder menu, then select "Go to folder" and enter "library".

Let us know if that works.

You're right. Sorry about that, something must have changed in Mountain Lion.

OK, let's try this method instead: Open your terminal application (Applications, Utilities, terminal.app)

Type the following in the terminal dialog and then press enter:

chflags nohidden ~/Library/

Afterward, exit the terminal app. Your user library folder will be visible. Let me know how it went.

I typed in chflags nohidden~/Library/
What I got was-- usage: chflags [-fhv] [-R [-H | -L | -P]] flags file ...

Nothing else happened!

pinnbob you need to have a space between nohidden and ~/Library/ so you would type:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/

I typed in - chflags nohidden ~/Library/ & I got
Roberts-MacBook-Pro:~ roberthalderman$
I did not see the Library in Launchpad or utilities. Where is it?

The library you need to see will be under your user name. Open Finder, and click on your user name (with the little house). The Library folder will then be visible to you.

Go back to Post #4 and follow the navigation to the Microsoft folder that I indicated. If your Outlook contacts were saved, they should show up in that folder. If it turns up empty, they're probably gone for good unless you had them backed up elsewhere.
