I have recently switched to OS X from Windows XP at work. I have one thing that isn't working.

I can't connect to the webserver to modify files on our website. On windows I have a shortcut that connects to our website using https://websitename.com:2078

On Mac I've tried using "Connect to Server" and typing in https://websitename.com:2078

It comes up with a dialog box asking for my username/password but then says that there is a problem connecting to the website. Just for fun I've also tried smb instead of https but that didn't work either.

Anyone have any ideas?

Is this a WebDAV server? I ask because I'm trying to figure out why you're accessing a web server through Finder.

I don't really know. It is the server that has the files that make up our website. I routinely have to edit one of the files (it's an .htm file). In windows I just double click the shortcut and it comes up in an explorer window. Then I just right click on the .htm file and "open with MS Word". I can't figure out how to do the same thing in OSX

Side note... when I type the same address (https) into a web browser I get a window that asks for username/password and then it lists the files and they are "clickable", but I can't edit them.

It would be best to ask the web maintainer and/or IT guy how the folder containing these files is shared. In fact, I bet they could even set this up for you.

We don't really have an IT guy. It's a really small business. We do have a website manager but not onsite and we have to pay a lot for every call.

Anyway... I looked at the windows shortcut and it actually had a folder after the port. So I tried adding the folder and it seemed to work but it never actually connected.

I'm wondering if maybe it has something to do with the "DNS" since the shortcut isn't the actual ip address.
