So Jan 10th is appproaching and the Mac Expo is promising to reveal the first of the intel based machines so what do you think will be released and what would you like them to release

Obviously the first release of the mactels are expected but do you think there will be any other suprises?

I am hoping for apple to introduce a lifestyle product based on the mac mini that acts as a media centre. This then I hope would lead to them introducing a Sonos type system for the entire house.

Anyway what is everybody else hoping for?

I deffinately want a media type center for the whole house, or a start, based on the mac mini...that would be amazing

Also, the 13" ibook with intel chip would be nice as well...

For a far out, what I want at the expo...mac has filled my wildest dreams...maybe a mac robot, that would be pimp :)

I want an macintel 'book that will dual boot or emulate (fast) windows and run mac software faster than my G4 1.5GHz desktop so that I can get rid of all my desktops (mac and PC) and my laptop. Then I could just use one computer all the time. Oh yeah... and it has to be really cheap so I can afford it on my PhD. stipend.

Is that too much to ask?!

I'd like to see an intel iBook--which hopefully won't have many hiccups. A peek at Leopard would be good too..

i think BT mighty mouse will be an easy give if apple really wanted 9and probably a very profitable one imho).

I really hope that we see somthing that will hit MS hard. I think their media sysstem would be the ideal opportunity in hitting as a viable option in everybodys home. Sonos are charging 900 for 2 units, MS Media Centre is not that popular, ipod is so lets get ipod users having some hardware they can relate to, ie a media centre that they can plug their ipod into -this is an ideal opp apple to start leading the way in home entertainment..

Why?

Microsoft are going to bring one out in spring 06 for the Xbox360
At the rumored price of 100-200
so why can't apple as Tiger + ichat are fully compatible with High def with the H264 Codec so there no major os updates they need to make it compatible

I wouldn't mind seeing a completely new mac that was designed from the bottom up. Sure the mac mini and the iMac are great computers, but the upgradability on them is very limited. Maybe a mini version of the PowerMac G5 where you do have the option of upgrading or adding new hardware like a new or a second video card or add a second harddrive. Something that gives you more freedom then the mini or the iMac.

trpnmonkey41
01-01-2006, 08:26 PM
G5 is too hot for it to be in a smaller case. Plus from a business standpoint it doesn't make sense for Apple to do that. If people want upgradeability and power, then get the all out G5, why make a cheaper computer that they can upgrade at a lower cost?

Yeah, The Bluetooth Mighty Mouse, (but there needs to be a recall for all of us who bought a mac that came with the mighty mouse)

I also think they should come up with a mighty keyboard, with more buttons and maybe a built in powermate ; http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powermate/ ,there should be a sleep, shut sown and restart buttons like on some windows keyboards, and one of those arm restes on some keyboard, they should call it the Suppppppper Keyboard, and it should only cost as much as the current keyboard.

but i still dont get why they needed to change in the first place?...

a 23" and 30" iMac is going a bit overboard...

Why should Apple have to recall people's mighty mouses when they come out with bluetooth ones? If you bought it you should have to keep it. It's like they're defective...

I don't agree. Most people don't want a gaming console in the living room. Gaming is a very unsocial activity. Ask your wife if she would rather play a game or watch you play a game or watch Desperate Housewives. However the PVR we got is the best device to hit the living room since the TV itself. A device like this really changes things. The only problem is with PVR's is the software is terrible. Why can't I do a keyword search? Why can't I bookmark? Apple could really turn this market on its head as long as DRM doesn't kill the good ideas before they start.

I think the real market is moving away from boxes and screens to "appliances" like the iMac. Sure, proffessionals and enthusiests want upgradable boxes (I was the same). Last year I bought an iMac and a Powerbook. Fantastic. The iMac is great. Its not teathered to one location (the office) where the cable modem is. It can be put anywhere and still look great, no clunky box, separate monitor, and ugly ugly wires everywhere which looks terrible. The laptop has really changed things though. Now while my wife watches TV, I surf the net and play online backgammon while on the couch. No wires, no anti-social office sitting while she is in the living room.

Now this brings me to my second point. The first company that comes out with a quality flat screen tv, that I can hang on my wall, and well thats it. No DVD player box, no PVR box, no "game console" box, no wires. Just plug it in. Ever since I bought a house I don't want 6.1 surround receiver with 100's of wires everywhere. I don't want clunky noisy boxes like PVR's and DVD players and game consoles ruining my clean living room and trying to find nice looking stands to put them on/in.

The iMac is oh so close to this. Enlarge the screen, dumb down the the computer part a bit (the power is not needed here), make it a PVR, put in a quality TV tuner, its got a DVD player. Thats it!!! Apple could really make waves here.

I agree with the Imac media center Idea, but I think a mac mini media center machine would be cool as well. Tivo, but with wireless, put the shows on ur computer/ipod type stuff.

If they come up with new ibooks, the smalled and cheapest ibook better be able to run aperature, because my 1.2ghz ibook cannot :'(...

I have the 60GB 4G Ipod Photo that I bought last May.

My CD collection, that is now imported in itunes, is approximately 83GB.

I have only loaded about 44GB in to my ipod, and I think this year will be out before I listen to eveything ONCE on my ipod.

Now, there's video to contend with...but are we really that busy? We have to watch our fav shows on a little 2 inch screen???

Bigger cap ipods would be cool, but are definitely NOT necessary in the scheme of things, right now.

Waiting to see Leopard. Potential PB purchase in late winter-early spring for me, so I'm anxious.

I'm going to say:

- even more butt kicking iLife suite that makes Vista's offerings look paltry and weak but to remain accessible and most importantly -- FUN!

- iWork '06 with improved Pages (but not ever feature in the world, that would defeat the object), with a spreadsheet application.

If iLife '06 and iWork '06 prove compelling enough, I will (when I find a job!) definitely purchase both as I cannot believe how much use and fun I have had with iLife and iWork '05 though still young has proven somewhat compelling!

Intel Macs and the likes don't interest me, I have all I want sat right now on my lap!

Speaking of the game console revolution, which in my opinion is a big thing for mac sers because they can hardly really play on their macs, I think we are getting to better multiplayer systems and games all the time, and sitting together with friends and playin is getting funner all the time, even just watching ...

As a new cult member, I wish that the intel things was a joke. I moved most of my computer life over to mac because of intel (the p4 sucks) and the attachment to oppressive drm. I think 2006 will be the year of on demand entertainment and on demand payment. Your existing media content will not work and you will have to re-buy everything. We wiil also see expiry dates on things like music from itunes. Meaning, ou buy a song, and in 6 months you will have to renew it. IMO intel is not a good product so the only explanation for moving to it is ViiV, the dark overlord of the media world. It will handcuff legitimate users while having limit effect on the pirates.

Forgive if this actually exists or discussed, since I don't even own an iPod.

If I was going to spend the $400 or so for an iPod video, I'd want it to have a built-in wireless connection to the iTunes website (or variant). I could browse the site and download music or video without needing a computer.

It seems like the next logical step that Apple should take.

What does the lack of refurbished ibooks have to do with the release of an intel ibook? Sometimes, there are none listed for days, and some days they will have 5 or 6 different iterations of the ibook listed in the refurb section.

I'm expecting an intel ibook, but I wouldn't read too much into the current lack of PPC ibooks in the refurbished inventory.

I don't know about you guys, but I really don't want to do any computing on a TV. I'd much rather have a device that has excellent DVR capabilities than a device that is only a mediocre DVR or a mediocre computer.

What I would want from a PC/DVR hooked up to the TV is:
- Ability to watch HDTV
- Ability to record and playback HDTV
- Wireless network access
- Good photo viewer / slideshow program
- Good MP3 playback
