Hello;

I am sure this has been covered before but I cannot find the fix. I have a Powerbook G4 running 10.5.8. I followed the steps to go intop single user mode and remove the /var/db/.AppleSetupDone. I then reboot and I get the start up pages and registeration. I use the COmmand -Q to bypass the registeration and go to the account setup. I follow the menus there and (set userid and password) and then reboot. My problem is when it reboots I get the GUI prompt for userid and password but when I enter the password, it grays out then comes back with the login screen again.

What am I doing wrong?

Do you have a Leopard disk? Boot with it and change the password from the Utilities menu. I'm not certain, but I don't believe you can change the password with the method you're using.

No, I do not have a disk. I am courious though, where does the login process go to find the password. I have looked in /etc/kspassword and /etc/passwd but I cannot even find the login ID I specified. thanks again
