There aren't any new iMacs coming anytime soon -- they were just updated last month. You've indicated you're not buying new anyway.

If you have your eye on the 21.5 iMac, I think it makes an ideal home computer. Seems like a good price as well.

Hey Chas - where did you get that the iMac's were updated? They weren't. The Macbook Airs and the Macbook Pros were updated, the iMac systems have NOT received an update yet. There is a rumor that they will be updated in September or October - and on some benchmark sites there has been data appearing about the potential new iMac, but the current ones available are over a year old at this point and were not updated a month ago. See:

To the OP: If it were me I'd wait, but that's because I'd want the newer ivy bridge and a new more powerful GPU (assuming they would update the GPU) - but those are due to my needs and wants. If you are just doing general work (word processing, web surfing, email, etc.) the current last year model should last you for quite a while.

Huh? Maybe it's a little too early in the morning out on the left coast? I think chas might have been thinking about the MBA and MBP.

Yeah, sorry, brain malfunction. I was thinking iMac but you're right, they are due soon. Must have gotten them confused with the Mac Pros somehow. Mea culpa.
