OWC's 480GB 6G SSD costs $647.99. I don't see how Apple's pricing is out of line.

The pricing seems a little out of line seeing that you are doubling the memory and leaving them with the old 256 drive (less cost to apple).

Dell charges $350 to upgrade from a 128GB SSD to a 256GB SSD. If Apple's pricing is out of line so is their competition's pricing.

Too many...

This! The pricing would be fine, if they allowed you to keep the SSD blade you upgraded. You're technically paying for 768gb of SSD space, but only getting 512gb. However, it's not out of line compared to the rest of the industry...it just makes me salty.

Still using the new SSD module formfactor, I suppose - and of course, the soldered in memory and epoxy-ed battery. No thanks.

I truly hope this is outsold by the standard MacBook Pro model and Apple gets the hint. Otherwise, if this is the way the rest of the line goes, I'm typing on my last Apple notebook.

No one said Apple's prices were out of line. They are in fact comparable to other computer manufacturers. It's just that a machine which already is priced at $2200, and for the most part can't be upgraded, that adding another $500 or $1000 to the price tag seems extravagant to me.

Well said.
