Help swapping the left/right stereo audio channels in an mp4 video file

Is there any simple way to permanently reverse the stereo channels in a video file (mp4), using free software or software that comes standard on a mac? The best I've been able to do is reverse the channels in VLC, but that's only for playback and not permanent in the file.

I've been searching the internet all day with no luck. The closest I could get was a multiple-step process that involved extracting the audio and then reversing the channels, but I haven't had any luck with that.

If you swap the channels in VLC and then save the files does the change hold? Audacity is free and I think it has this ability though I have not used it in a while.

I'm pretty sure Amadeus Pro does this but is not free. If you only need that feature a few times I think it lets you save 10 files before you have to pay to keep the save function.
