iDVD file size

Hey, does anyone know what the max file size is to burn an AVI in iDVD5 for use on a standard dvd player?

I'm trying to burn a 700mb file and it keeps telling me the file is too big. Very confused and have tried many different programs to get this avi file to burn on a dvd for use in my dvd player.

It is more of a length issue than a file size issue, but I do not know what the length is.
