I want to scan some pages from a book and create a document from those scanned pages that I can email. Can anyone tell me how I can do that on my MacBook Pro with a HP Desktop F4400? Please be aware, if it isn't clear already, that I am a ignoramus.;)

I'm assuming your HP DeskJet F4400 is setup to scan the documents. Scan the documents with the HP and then open your Preview application. (Applications, Preview)

Click on the "File" menu item from the Preview top menu. Select "Import From Scanner". Your HP should be listed. That's all there is to it. The scanned images from the HP will be saved as JPG files which can then be attached to your eMail messages.

Open Image Capture and your scanner should appear there. The scanned image is just a graphic file so can be attached to an email. If you want a document that can be edited you need character recognition software to convert the image to editable text.

Can Preview combine multiple scans together into one file? I know that the full version of Acrobat can do that.
