Time machine question

I read the sticky but still have a question. When I take my laptop out of my house, I can disconnect the external drive, and then when I get back home just reconnect it without having any problems?

Yes, but be sure to always properly eject the drive before disconnecting from your Mac. And if you wish, go into System Preferences, Time Machine, and turn off automatic backups. Don't forget to turn it back on when you re-connect the drive.
