Interesting that they still refer to that as the "golden master" - especially since the software is primarily sold as a downloadable. Technically, if it's a golden master, it's the production release.

Yeah, I'd expect to see it pretty soon if it's truly the Golden Master - like tomorrow - since they don't need to press discs.

True. But if there are bugs they will have to release a 2nd GM before we see it.

EDIT : Please amend my Title to Mountain Lion :(

Well, that's the thing - to term a release as the "Golden Master", implies that it's final. Any subsequent release would be 10.8.xxx (like 10.8.1)

EDIT : Please amend my Title to Mountain Lion :(

Done.

Unless there are any last minute show stoppers, the GM should be the release build. The fact that it's been seeded to developers however is a positive sign.

TM, the term gold master comes from the old process of optical media production in which a mold for the media was made of gold and then sent to the production line. More here.

We don't know yet since none (or very few) of us have had a chance to play with it yet.

If I remember correctly, Apple is moving to a yearly release cycle. So, if you want to wait for the next release, the next one will be in the summer of 2013.

Is it worth installing this or waiting?

Take a look at the 2012 WWDC Keynote about Mountain Lion and you can decide when it's released..

The GM and all previous versions are meant for developers (thus called developers seed) and are not meant for regular folks. Unless you know what you are doing, you're better of waiting for the release to happen later this month..

Way... way too many specs to list.
Perhaps the real question is the GA (general availability) version, or post-GA. In that case, it depends. If you're into being on the bleeding edge, and don't mind dealing with the inevitable problems that creep up because of it. By all means, install on day 0.

Thanking you. Sits better in the noggin now :)

I meant the gm version or wait

Wait until the developers have told Apple of all the bugs and they release the real version on or around the 19th.

Cheers

From the playing I've one with it it's neat, I'll upgrade day 1 because it fixes (not the UI) elements I don't like about Lion. I'm going to make a Chris Mountain Lion GM first though.

Sure, but since Australia is tucked way down there in the corner, and thus must experience huge delays, I take it that the rest of the world will get in sooner. :p

Our Aussie friends have probably gotten tired waiting for things like this. Perhaps a few kind-hearted Canadians would volunteer to wait a few extra days and let the folks down under go first?:Mischievous:

Don't you have some kind of Canadian tradition of friendliness / good neighborliness to uphold?

EDIT: I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt.
