Hopefully these suggestions may save others from the cost/ time wasted I experienced!
No axe to grind, just trying to give useful info-

1. CleanMyMac- excellent; user friendly, drag-n-drop, fast and pretty, too!

Don't get sucked into that 'MacKeeper' trap as I did, paying for an
inferior (IMO) product.

2. 'Free Memory' No, it's not RAM for nothing but it seems to help the inadequate 2GB in
my MBA 11" and displays impending choking!

MacKeeper is utter trash and borders on malware in my experience. CleanMyMac isn't much better, but at least it doesn't appear to be damaging - do be aware that there is highly regarded, free software that pretty much does the same thing.

Onyx is one of the more popular options.

There's some good info in this thread about CleanMyMac and maintenance in general (which for most users, is rarely needed):

Well, you're talking to a novice here! I don't recall paying for CMM... maybe it was a promotion? Anyway, never heard of Onyx, how does one discover these things?
SO, do you advise not to bother with these 'cleaners'?

What bugs me about MacKeeper is the relentless advertising which sucks in gullible folks (like me!). With physical product you can return and ask for refund but on line- you're
DONE

Two ways,

1. Google Searches
2. Join & participate at Mac-Forums!

I think that you've discovered #2!:)
