iMac Core Duo running Windows 7 (No Sound)

Hi,

I have a 17" iMac G5 iSight model. I used to have Windows Vista, but ever since I got Windows 7, I no longer have sound. It says my "High Definition Audio Device" is up to date and I have tried to check all my other settings. I know my sound works because when I start up my mac, or switch to my other OS (Tiger), the sound will work perfectly fine. I think its a compatibility issue to do with Windows 7 and my audio card? Could anyone suggest to me ways that I could fix the problem? Am I missing a program?

Thanks.

With extreme difficulty one imagines through Virtual PC or similar, unless of course HikariBH actually means an Intel iMac and not a G5.

I am with Chas. Windows WILL NOT install natively on ANY Power PC Mac. Are you sure it's an iMac G5 iSight and not the Intel replacement that looked exactly the same?

Take a screen shot of About This Mac under the Apple and post it if you would.

If you were running Windows Vista in Emulation on a Power PC, I feel sorry for you as it would CRAWL SO SLOWLY it would be unusable even for Solitaire! :D

When I had Windows Vista (Home), I found I also had a sound issue, the sound would occasionally jump (like if the sound was too lag), no matter where the sound was coming from.

I have the same iMac version (4,1) - been running like a champ for 6 years and ran Windows XP and Snow Leopard just fine. Perhaps you just need to upgrade to SL and reinstall drivers?

Cheers

No. I have no wish to upgrade my other OS. I would like sound on my Windows side. This problem only occurred when it was installed. :(

I believe that Boot Camp is no longer supported on Leopard, meaning you will have trouble updating the drivers including for sound. I recommend spending the $29 USD for Snow Leopard, which is supported. Cheers

I believe that Apple no longer supports Boot Camp in Leopard; it's not a Windows 7 issue at all. In order to get the drivers and have Boot Camp function correctly I think you need to upgrade your Apple OS. Good luck!

Ok, well my iMac currently has 10.4.11 (Tiger). Can I even download or purchase 10.5.8 (Leopard) any more? Will my mac be able to run it? And don't I have to upgrade to Leopard before I can get 10.6 (Snow Leopard), or even 10.7 (Lion)?

If that's truly what you have (and it appears Dennis is correct) then....

The latest version of OS X you can run on that machine is Snow Leopard. And no, you can not download it from anywhere. It can only be purchased direct from Apple on line for $29.99.

Yes, you are out of luck with Tiger. You need to upgrade and I believe you just need to buy SL as noted above. Again, I have the same machine and it runs SL just fine.

Cheers

So I don't need to buy Leopard, I can go straight to Snow Leopard? :) I mean, if I do this, Steam and iLoL will finally work as Tiger was to old. But it says for SL requirements it's 1GB ram, but I believe to only have 512mb...
