• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

If I correctly read the books I have (Switching to the Mac, and Mac OS X Leopard) there is no built in ability record a video of me speaking. I could record a series of "snaps" then add a soundtrack but that is not the same as recording myself speaking. Or am I misreading?

Assuming I cannot do that, I'd like recommendations for a WebCam that will play well with the Mac, and can be used to create a high-quality video. FWIW, this video will be a "one off" so I prefer to not spend lots of money.

Which Mac are you using? Some of them have webcams built in. Also which version of Leopard are you using? Find this by choosing About this Mac from the Apple Menu.

You are probably misreading. On any recent version of OS X, Photo Booth can do this or QuickTime X can do this or iMovie can do this (and a plethora of third-party apps can do this).

I don't doubt that I mis-read, hence my inquiry.

It's a Macbook with built in camera and microphone. OS X v 10.5.8

Based on your responses, and a find for PhotoBooth I found "Cache.mov", which is the few seconds I was testing the cam/mic. Man am I not very attractive on camera. Additionally my eyeglasses were reflecting the built-in-camera, and window behind me.

Many thanks and if I encounter more challenges I will return.
