New macbook pro, need a back up device?

I have a new macbook pro, it was made in May of this yr. I want an External drive back up that will utilize the faster ports of the macbook. I don't want to spend a lot of money, just one to backup my system and pics and vids of family. I don't want to wait 2 hours for it to do it, so usb 2.0 is out.

What do the experts recommend?

The fastest port on your MBP is the Thunderbolt Port but it will cost you a small fortune for a TB drive. Next would be Firewire 800. Look for a FW 800 drive of which there are many. Amazon, NewEgg, Other World Computing, all stock FW drives.
