Open the Finder and look down at the bottom of the dialog box. It should tell you how much of the disk you're using from what's available. For a more comprehensive view of what space is being used, download the free Disk Inventory X from here.

it does not show at bottom of page. Options not set right?

Which version of OS X are you running? Download the free app I linked to above as that will tell you a lot more.
