transferring

Hi,
I want to update to Lion on my macbook how do I save everything I have in my pics and documents on to an external hard drive (WD). quickly and easily??

If you have enough room, you can do a complete clone of your drive. Otherwise just copy over your home folder.

A backup is a good idea, but the Lion upgrade should go smoothly

my external hard drive is saying that I have to delete everything off it to use it as my time capsule.. I don't want to lose photos off the hard drive or the macbook but really want to use lion now.

If you're already using the external hard drive for stuff, what are you backing up ANY of this stuff with?

My advice is to go out and buy two new hard drives, both larger than your boot and external drives.

One of them can be the Time Machine drive. The other can be a backup for your existing "media" drive.

Then you're good to go.
