Why has my screen suddenly darkened. I'm old and really need the light! Thanks guys.

It sounds as if the screen brightness was turned down. To turn it up again, use the brightness buttons on your keyboard - F1 to turn it down, F2 to turn it up.

Maybe the computer or the display has gone to "sleep"...which can be adjusted via the "Energy Saver" settings in the "System Preferences".
