I'm planning on waiting 72 hrs--which is what I always say and then get excited and end up downloading as soon as the upgrade is available. ;)

Why 72hrs mate?? Because of the loads the servers will be getting and you have slow dl anyways??

I figure 72 hrs to find the major bugs and issue an update.

Doesn't work though since I can never wait that long.

Waitin for fixes? 90 days would be a better wait.

Gets a bit like the, a kid in a CandyStore. I just hope my ISP has my ADSL2+ on by then.
Where it says in the article Developer preview 1.08gb does that mean the OS is around that size ..... Duh Me stupid its a upgrade not a new OS ::bangs head on wall::

Awe man! I'm leaving for Hungary on the 17th, so I'll have to wait 2 weeks. But I'm definitely looking forward to the update for sure.

Woohoo

Start the backups now. Going for a clean install this time (went from L to SL to Lion). Everything seems to have been bit 'sticky' since the Lion upgrade. Been putting it off, but now's the time I think. Wipe the slate clean.
The question is whether to do a fresh Lion install then upgrade to Mountain Lion as this is more of a known quantity..... or to dive headlong into a fresh install using Mountain Lion (assuming the same mechanism of creating a disc will be available this time around)

I'll probably be downloading it release day. I'll create my backup thumb drive installer then do an upgrade install. My current installation was a fresh install after I installed the SSD in my MBP, so I hope I don't have any issues.

I'll upgrade... but will probably wait a couple weeks, and am considering a fresh install too (an '09 MBP).

I've still got Leopard (10.5.8) installed on a machine. Anyone know a way to directly install 10.8 when it's released, or will I have to go through the hoops (and cost) of installing 10.6, 10.7, then 10.8?

Not necessarily. If Apple puts ML on a thumb drive like they did with Lion, one can always do a clean install. One can also make their own bootable thumb drive if the same method is available soon after release. (of course said method would require access to the App Store to download ML)

Which is why I said 'officially'

Even the Lion USB option bought from Apple states that you should have Snow Leopard first.

Which I guess makes sense, considering the technical ability level of the user base.

From memory that is a wait though. Is was month after the initial release of Lion that the USB came out.
Wonder if they will release the ThumbDrive on the same date this time??

It is extremely easy to make your own thumb drive, with or without the one click software installer.
Plus, they might actually release it earlier this time around, ya never know.
